Surescripts announced a significant milestone in the adoption of its Real-Time Prescription Benefit solutions, including:
- A 7.5% increase of Real-Time Prescription Benefit usage by prescribers, representing more than half of all prescribers in the United States.
- A 33% increase in prior authorizations processed between January and May 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.
- A 34% increase in electronic real-time benefit checks between January and May 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.
These advancements come at a time when medication affordability and adherence concerns are top of mind for healthcare professionals nationwide. In December 2021, the Kaiser Family Foundation reported that half of U.S. adults put off or skipped some form of health or dental care over the past year due to costs. Similarly, a 2021 Gallup study indicated that one in 20 U.S. adults reported that a family member or friend died after not receiving a treatment because of inability to pay.
